Memmingen Honours Filipino Rights Activist at World Mission Month Closing
Memmingen, a city renowned for its commitment to civil liberties, has hosted the closing event of the World Mission Month, a global Catholic solidarity campaign. The event, held by Missio Munich in the Diocese of Augsburg, honoured Carol Daria, a Filipino psychologist and human rights activist.
The World Mission Month, the largest of its kind among Catholics, concluded with a solemn Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Memmingen. This year's focus was on the Philippines, highlighting the struggle for human rights in the country.
Carol Daria, a prominent figure in this struggle, was awarded the prestigious Pauline Jaricot Prize. She was recognised for her courageous support of widows and orphans affected by the violent anti-drug campaign under former President Rodrigo Duterte. The award was presented during the closing event on October 26, 2025.
Memmingen's selection for the closing event underscored its tradition of civil liberties. The World Mission Month, with its focus on the Philippines, brought global attention to the ongoing human rights issues in the country. Carol Daria's award serves as a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
