Merz vs Weidel: Poll Shows Close Race, SPD and Greens Gain Female Support

A recent poll reveals a close race between Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Alice Weidel, with 29% supporting Weidel and 27% backing Merz. Meanwhile, the CDU/CSU bloc and AfD are neck and neck at 25.5% each, followed by SPD at 15%. The SPD attracts more women voters, with 16% support compared to 14% among men. This trend is also seen among Greens (13% women vs. 9% men) and Left Party (13% women vs. 10% men), while the BSW garners 5% from women and 3% from men. Germans primarily rely on public broadcasters and established media for news (51%), followed by social media (20%) and alternative media (8%). If only men were voting, AfD would lead with 29%, followed by CDU/CSU at 25%. Notably, Annalena Baerbock has historically shown stronger poll support against Friedrich Merz in direct elections. The black-red coalition government faces criticism, with 58% of respondents feeling it has performed worse than expected. The Greens and Left Party each stand at 11%, while FDP and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) each have 4% support. The upcoming elections promise a close race among the major parties.
