Mexico City fixes 1,000 hidden leaks, reclaiming 200 liters of water per second

Mexico City has made significant strides in addressing its water loss issues. Over 1,000 hidden leaks have been repaired this year, with more than 13,000 visible leaks fixed in 2023 and 2024 combined. These efforts have extended water supply hours in several boroughs and recovered a substantial amount of water.

The city has invested in advanced technology to tackle hidden leaks. Video-inspection drones, geophones, and flow correlators, acquired with the help of José Mario Esparza and Grupo Diavaz, have been instrumental in detecting and repairing these underground issues. This modern approach has led to the repair of over 1,000 hidden leaks this year alone.

The impact of these repairs is significant. More than 200 liters of water per second have been recovered, ensuring a more stable and efficient water supply. Boroughs like Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, and Tláhuac have seen extended water supply hours as a result. Additionally, over 11,000 visible leaks were repaired in 2023, with another 13,000 fixed so far in 2024. These visible leaks, spotted on streets, were also addressed to further improve the city's water management.

Mexico City's concerted effort to repair both hidden and visible leaks has yielded impressive results. With the help of advanced technology and dedicated teams, the city has recovered substantial water volumes and extended water supply hours in several boroughs. These initiatives highlight the city's commitment to improving its water infrastructure and efficiency.
