Mexico nominates Víctor Manuel Aguilar Pérez as WTO ambassador
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has put forward Víctor Manuel Aguilar Pérez as the country's next ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The nomination now moves to the Senate for review. Aguilar Pérez currently leads the International Trade Practices Unit in Mexico's Economy Ministry.
The proposal was formally submitted to Laura Itzel Castillo, the Senate President. Before his current role, Aguilar Pérez worked at Mexico's mission to the European Union. His background includes experience in trade policy and international negotiations.
The Foreign Relations Committee will examine the nomination before any final decision. The WTO, based in Geneva, oversees global trade rules and agreements. If approved, Aguilar Pérez would represent Mexico in key discussions on international commerce. No further details about his career or the selection process have been released so far.
The Senate's review will determine whether Aguilar Pérez takes up the post. His appointment would place him at the centre of Mexico's trade strategy within the WTO. The decision is expected to follow standard diplomatic approval procedures.
