Mexico’s oil production surges as key refineries hit full capacity

Mexico’s state-owned oil company, Pemex, has seen a significant boost in production under President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s leadership. The Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, is now running at near-full capacity, while the Tula Refinery in Hidalgo has also restarted operations. Both developments have increased the country’s hydrocarbon output in recent months.

The Olmeca Refinery faced power supply issues in June 2022, which temporarily disrupted its operations. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) stepped in to resolve the problems, ensuring the facility could function smoothly. Since then, the refinery’s output has climbed to nearly 300,000 barrels of oil per day.

With both the Olmeca and Tula refineries operating at high levels, Mexico’s daily oil output has risen. The government’s collaboration with Pemex and the CFE has addressed past challenges and improved refining capabilities. These developments mark a notable increase in the country’s energy production capacity.
