Miami Beach commissioner accused of funding offensive protest billboards

A political dispute has erupted in Miami Beach after a group accused a city commissioner of funding offensive billboards targeting its members. Jewish Voice for Peace claims Commissioner David Suarez paid for electronic truck displays featuring their faces alongside derogatory language. The incident unfolded during a pro-Palestinian rally in December. The controversy began during Art Basel week, when the group held a demonstration. Trucks carrying billboards reportedly displayed images of members, including Donna Nevel, who was labelled a 'Jew hater'. Attorney Alan Levine, representing the group, also appeared on one of the ads.

The group’s latest court filing includes photos of the billboards and an invoice dated 6 December 2025. The document shows a $4,000 charge billed to Suarez. When contacted by Our News Miami, the commissioner did not respond to requests for comment.

Jewish Voice for Peace is already suing the City of Miami Beach over alleged freedom of speech violations. Officials from the city declined to discuss the ongoing litigation. The group’s legal action continues as they push for accountability. The invoice and billboard images now form part of their case against the city. No further statements have been issued by either side at this time.
