Michael Vassiliadis Remains Chairman of the Industrial Union IG BCE - Michael Vassiliadis Re-elected IG BCE Chairman for Another Term
Michael Vassiliadis, the renowned chairman of the Industrial Union IG BCE, has secured another term at the helm. The quadrennial congress of the IG BCE union, held in Hannover under the theme 'Doing What’s Right! Clear. Strong. United.', saw delegates reaffirm the entire five-member executive board, including Vassiliadis.
Vassiliadis, a trained chemical laboratory technician who joined the union in 1980, has been the IG BCE's chairman since 2009. He was first elected in 2009 and has since been re-elected four times, including the latest term in October 2025. The union's highest decision-making body, the congress, runs from Tuesday to Friday.
Vassiliadis, also a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) since 1981, serves on the supervisory boards of prominent companies like BASF, Henkel, and Steag. He is married to Yasmin Fahimi, the chair of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), and has two sons from a previous marriage.
Michael Vassiliadis, with his extensive experience and reaffirmed support, continues to lead the IG BCE. His role on corporate supervisory boards and his personal background reflect his influence in both the labour movement and industry.
