MIC’s future hangs in balance as Vigneswaran steps aside for delegates’ decision
The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) held its annual general meeting in Shah Alam on November 16, with President Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran stepping back to let delegates decide the party's future direction. This includes whether MIC should remain in the Barisan Nasional coalition.
Vigneswaran emphasised the importance of unity and continuity for the party, urging members to make informed decisions. He also called for a renewed engagement with young Malaysians, suggesting the use of platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and podcasts to connect with them.
Reflecting on MIC's history within the Alliance coalition, Vigneswaran highlighted the purpose, belief, and cooperation that have shaped the nation. He also urged Wanita MIC to grow as a national movement, providing legal support, education, career guidance, digital literacy, and cybersecurity training for women.
With no clear announcement about the party's future direction or presidential succession, the MIC delegates now hold the reins. Vigneswaran's call for digital engagement and Wanita MIC's expansion indicates a push for renewal within the party.
