Migrant Volunteers Train to Help Refugees Integrate in Germany
A new initiative in Solingen and Remscheid is training volunteers with migrant backgrounds to support refugees. The project, running until the end of the year, will help newcomers settle into German society. Funding of €21,600 has been secured from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
The scheme focuses on equipping volunteers to act as refugee coordinators. Their role will include guiding newcomers through language learning, democratic values, and fostering tolerance. Services are designed to be accessible and diverse, ensuring low barriers to participation.
The Federal Association of Spanish Social and Cultural Organizations is overseeing the project. Ingo Schäfer, a local MP, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in aiding refugee integration. He noted that well-trained coordinators play a vital part in helping newcomers adapt to life in local volunteering efforts. The €21,600 funding comes directly from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. While the project is active in both Solingen and Remscheid, no specific organisation has been publicly named as the contractor for its implementation.
The training programme will continue until December, preparing volunteers to assist refugees in key areas. Successful completion will expand local volunteering support networks for newcomers. The SPD’s backing ensures the project remains focused on practical integration efforts.
