Mijas cracks down on crime with 48 checkpoints and dozens of fines

Mijas authorities have ramped up policing efforts to improve community safety. Last month, local officers carried out extensive checks and enforcement actions across the town. The crackdown led to dozens of fines, arrests, and reports under various laws.

During February, police set up 48 security checkpoints in different parts of Mijas. These operations focused on verifying documents and preventing crime.

Officers made 12 arrests tied to breaches of court orders and outstanding warrants. They also processed 70 reports under Spain's Citizen Security Law. Of these, 47 involved public drug use, while 11 related to disrespect towards authorities.

Enforcement of local rules resulted in 44 fines under the Citizen Safety and Coexistence Ordinance. Illegal waste dumping accounted for nearly half of these penalties. Additionally, 23 fines were issued for violations of the Public Highway Ordinance, mainly targeting pet owners who failed to clean up dog urine from streets and pavements.

The council has highlighted the importance of these measures in maintaining public order. They have urged residents to cooperate with police to ensure faster and more effective responses.

The intensified policing has led to quicker emergency responses and greater reassurance among locals. Authorities remain committed to reinforcing security and harmony in Mijas through ongoing enforcement efforts. No direct comparisons with similar measures in other Spanish towns of the same size or tourist activity have been provided.
