Minister Loke Appoints Azmi Sharom to Probe MAHB's Repeated Aerotrain Disruptions at KLIA
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has appointed Azmi Sharom to lead an investigation into Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) following repeated disruptions to the Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The latest incident occurred early this morning, stranding passengers in the dark and forcing them to walk along the tracks with their luggage.
The Ministry of Transport, through the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), has warned MAHB of strict action for every service disruption. Minister Loke directed the investigation, citing MAHB's operator's license which mandates a satisfactory level of Aerotrain service. Fines of up to RM250,000 per offense under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 are possible.
Initially, the ministry acknowledged MAHB's need for time to adapt to Aerotrain operations. However, after several months of ongoing service interruptions, the ministry can no longer tolerate the disruptions and has launched the investigation.
Azmi Sharom will now lead the investigation into MAHB's Aerotrain service issues. The ministry's stern warning to MAHB underscores the seriousness of the situation, with potential fines and strict actions on the table. Passengers can expect updates and hopefully improved services following the investigation.
