Ministry Updates Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has recently issued a gazette notification, amending the recruitment rules for primary school teachers. The changes, signed by Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana on Sunday, aim to clarify and update the existing rules.

Previously, 20% of posts were reserved for science graduates, while 80% were for graduates in other subjects. The new amendment now includes graduates from both science and other disciplines, benefiting candidates with a science background.

The recruitment process will now take place on an upazila or thana basis. Head teachers currently serving in grade-12 without basic training must complete it within 18 months of their pay scale upgrade, or risk demotion. Teachers must complete basic training within four years of appointment, with relaxed conditions for those aged 50 or above.

A five per cent quota has been reserved for the children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters, and Biranganas. Teachers will be made permanent upon successful completion of their probationary period and satisfactory performance. Unsatisfactory performance may lead to appointment cancellation or demotion.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education's new rules aim to create a more inclusive and efficient recruitment process for primary school teachers, benefiting both candidates and the education system.
