Minor traffic accident near Niederkrüchten turns into violent confrontation between drivers
A minor traffic accident on the B221 near Niederkrüchten escalated into a physical confrontation on Thursday evening. Two drivers, aged 59 and 60, became involved in a dispute that led to police intervention and ongoing investigations. The incident began when a 60-year-old man from Wegberg swerved to avoid a collision with a 59-year-old driver from Niederkrüchten. Though no major crash occurred, the side mirrors of both vehicles were damaged. Instead of exchanging details, the Wegberg driver pursued the other motorist to the entrance of a nearby gravel pit.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the two men pushing and shoving each other. The Niederkrüchten driver later accused the Wegberg man of assault. Police arrived and documented the altercation, filing two separate reports. Authorities charged the 59-year-old from Niederkrüchten with endangering road traffic, resulting in the immediate confiscation of his driver's licence. The 60-year-old from Wegberg was reported for bodily harm. No further action has been announced as investigations continue.
The confrontation left both drivers facing legal consequences. The Niederkrüchten man lost his driving privileges, while the Wegberg driver was formally reported for assault. Police have not yet confirmed whether additional charges will follow.
