Miss Read 2023: Berlin's Art Book Fair Goes Global with East Focus
Miss Read 2023, the annual art book fair and festival in Berlin, is set to be the largest and most diverse edition yet. With 340 exhibitors from 55 countries, this year's event promises a rich exploration of publishing practices from the East, a departure from previous focuses.
Since its inception in 2009, Miss Read has grown significantly in size and scope, becoming a central hub for artists, authors, and publishers to showcase their work and engage in discussions. This year's fair will delve into the theme of artist-run culture, with a focus on publishing practices from the East.
The fair will feature exhibitors such as White Fungus, 20 Seconds Magazine, and TAKE on Art, offering visitors a chance to explore a wide range of magazines and books. Additionally, a zine called 'How to Book in Berlin' will be launched, featuring interviews with independent publishers based in the city.
Miss Read 2023 is organized by a diverse team, including a co-director from Cameroon who brings expertise in decolonial issues in publishing. The fair is not only a platform for showcasing art and publishing but also a space for fostering conversations and community around publishing as artistic practice. Monthly Miss Read talks in Berlin further contribute to this ongoing dialogue.
