Modi and Meloni strengthen India-Italy ties at historic G20 in Johannesburg

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met briefly at the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg. The gathering, held from 22 to 23 November, marks South Africa’s first time hosting the event as the 2025 G20 president. Their interaction highlighted the strengthening ties between India and Italy in recent months.

Modi arrived in Johannesburg on Friday for his fourth official visit to South Africa. The summit, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, is the first G20 meeting ever held on African soil.

The meeting in Johannesburg reinforces the ongoing collaboration between India and Italy. Both leaders have repeatedly emphasised their dedication to expanding economic and strategic cooperation. Their latest exchange builds on multiple high-level discussions held throughout the year.
