Modi’s Oman visit to seal landmark India-Oman trade and defence pact
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Oman on December 17-18, 2025, to finalise a major trade deal between the two nations. The trip follows months of negotiations on the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which both governments have now approved. Discussions will also cover defence ties, regional security, and the ongoing Gaza conflict with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
The CEPA, a free trade agreement, has already received approval from India’s Union Cabinet and Oman’s Shura Council. Negotiations began in November 2023, and the deal is now set for signing during Modi’s visit. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will accompany the prime minister for the ceremony.
The CEPA signing will mark a significant step in India-Oman relations, opening new trade opportunities. Defence collaboration, including aircraft spares and port access, will also strengthen strategic ties. The visit is set to reinforce economic and security partnerships between the two countries.
