Tannhäuser New Gender Equality Officer - Monique Tannhäuser Named New Equality Commissioner for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
Monique Tannhäuser has been appointed as the new state commissioner for women and equality in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The cabinet approved her selection after the previous commissioner, Wenke Brüdgam, stepped down in early December following a controversial incident.
Brüdgam resigned after removing and crumpling German flags from vacant houses, an action that prompted an investigation by the state's attorney general. She has since returned to her former role in Rostock's city administration.
Tannhäuser brings experience from her three-year tenure as managing director of the Landesfrauenrat Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Justice Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt praised her as a dedicated advocate for gender equality. Currently, Tannhäuser is involved in shaping the state's *Gleichstellungspolitisches Rahmenprogramm* alongside civil society partners. The transition comes as the government seeks to stabilise the role after Brüdgam's departure. Tannhäuser's appointment marks a new phase for equality policy in the region.
Tannhäuser officially takes over the position following cabinet approval. Her work will focus on advancing gender equality initiatives in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The state now moves forward after resolving the controversy surrounding her predecessor's exit.
