Mother Demands Justice After Alleged Assault on Her and Toddler in Nashik
A 24-year-old woman from Nashik district has approached the Bombay High Court seeking an independent investigation into the alleged sexual assault of herself and her 2.5-year-old daughter. The incident, reported in August 2024, has raised concerns over police handling of the case, including delays in medical checks and the release of the main accused without proper procedures.
The attack took place on August 28, 2024, near the Shivnadi bridge in Sinnar, Nashik. The accused allegedly assaulted the woman’s husband before sexually assaulting both her and her young daughter. Despite the serious nature of the charges—including offences under the POCSO Act—the police released the main accused immediately after issuing a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, without conducting a thorough medical examination.
The Bombay High Court will review the plea for an independent investigation. The case highlights concerns over procedural lapses, including delayed medical checks and the failure to arrest all accused promptly. The outcome of the petition could determine whether the investigation will be reassigned to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.
