Motorcyclist critically injured after swerving into oncoming truck in Berlin crash
A 44-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision on Gehrenseestraße in Alt-Hohenschönhausen yesterday morning. The accident happened at around 8:30 a.m. and involved a van and an oncoming truck. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The motorcyclist was travelling along Gehrenseestraße toward Hohenschönhauser Straße when a 23-year-old van driver suddenly braked in front of him. To avoid a crash, the rider swerved into the path of an approaching truck. He then collided with both the van and the truck's trailer, suffering severe injuries.
Emergency services rushed the man to hospital, where he remains in inpatient care. The accident site was cordoned off until shortly after 2 p.m., temporarily closing part of Gehrenseestraße. Bus route 294 faced disruptions during the road closure.
A specialised traffic crime unit under Police Directorate 3 (East) is now examining the circumstances of the crash.
The motorcyclist remains hospitalised with serious injuries. Traffic on Gehrenseestraße returned to normal after police and fire crews cleared the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
