Multiple nationalities come together for the Baltic air surveillance mission, as Hungarians and Spaniards participate in the operation.
Today, a ceremony for changing military units is scheduled to take place at the Shauliai airbase in Lithuania. The event marks the beginning of the Baltic sky patrol, a four-month-long mission that will see the skies over Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia patrolled by Hungarian Gripen and Spanish EF Typhoon fighters.
The Hungarian military unit, along with their Spanish counterparts, will participate in this ceremony. After the ceremony, both Hungarian Gripen and Spanish EF Typhoon fighters will be taking to the skies, providing air coverage across the three Baltic states.
The Hungarian Gripen fighters will be a familiar sight in the skies, as they will also be participating in the Baltic sky patrol. Similarly, Spanish EF Typhoon fighters will be flying in the skies over Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia for the next 4 months.
In addition to the Baltic sky patrol, it has been announced that Hungarian and Spanish military units will now fly over Poland for the next four months as part of NATO's enhanced air policing measures. This move aims to strengthen the air defense and deterrence posture in response to increased regional security concerns.
While the specific purpose or nature of the Baltic sky patrol has not been disclosed, it is clear that this joint effort by Hungarian and Spanish forces is a significant step towards ensuring the security and stability of the region. The ceremony at the Shauliai airbase today marks the beginning of this important mission.
