Mumbai Marine Pilot Loses ₹65 Lakh in Flat Rental Scam
A 38-year-old marine pilot, Nilesh Bamnia, has fallen victim to a ₹65 lakh flat rental scam in Mumbai. The Khar Police have registered a case against six accused individuals involved in the fraudulent transaction.
Bamnia was introduced to brokers Mohammad Rehman, Anil Dubey, and Pradeep Jadhav by Lavesh Gowda for a flat in Continental Tower, Bandra West. The owners, Shanti and Tarun Chavan, finalised a deal with Bamnia for ₹65 lakh as a heavy deposit for three years, which he transferred in instalments to Shanti Chavan's account.
However, it was later discovered that the flat had already been auctioned by Kotak Bank, making the entire transaction fraudulent. When confronted, the Chavans offered their Karjat land instead, which was found to have already been sold to another buyer. The accused, including Dhyaneshwar Dighe and Sadiqoor Rehman, allegedly threatened Bamnia when he demanded his money back.
The Khar Police have registered a case against all six accused - Vishal Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Sunil Gupta, Anil Mehta, Rakesh Verma, and Sanjay Patel - under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing to recover Bamnia's lost money and bring the culprits to justice.
