Münster Launches New Committee for Equality and Integration
Münster City Council has formed a new Committee for Equality and Integration, with nine members appointed on November 5. This body aims to foster equal participation and fair opportunities for people with immigrant backgrounds in the city's political, social, and cultural life.
The committee, consisting of 27 members, includes 18 elected from the previous Integration Council vote on September 14. The new name reflects the importance of migration in political work and underscores the commitment to anti-discrimination and equal participation. The city is implementing a legal amendment to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Municipal Code, mandating such committees for cities with at least 5,000 foreign residents. The remaining nine members were appointed from the city council's own ranks on November 5.
The new Committee for Equality and Integration in Münster is set to drive progress in promoting equal opportunities and combating discrimination. With a diverse membership and a clear mandate, the committee begins its work to ensure all residents have a fair chance to participate in the city's life.
