Mystery blaze destroys Remscheid allotment shed in early-morning fire
A fire broke out at an allotment shed in Remscheid during the early hours of March 23, 2026. Emergency crews responded swiftly after newspaper delivery workers raised the alarm at around 1:40 a.m. The blaze had already taken full hold of the structure by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.
The incident occurred at a shed located on Julius-Leber-Straße. A total of 17 firefighters from Remscheid Fire Department attended the call, deploying two teams with breathing apparatus to tackle the flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, crews managed to secure a water supply and bring the situation under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with police now leading an investigation. No other garden houses or nearby structures were affected, and no injuries have been reported. This marks the first recorded allotment shed fire in Remscheid in 2025 or 2026, according to available records.
Authorities have yet to determine what sparked the blaze. The quick response from emergency services ensured the fire did not spread beyond the shed. Investigations are ongoing, and further details may emerge as the probe continues.
