Mystery lingers over Plisetskaya and Shchedrin’s final public ceremony
A month-long festival celebrating the lives of legendary ballerina Maya Plisetskaya and composer Rodion Shchedrin is currently taking place across Moscow and St. Petersburg. Running from November 20 to December 16, the event honours their artistic contributions. Meanwhile, questions have arisen about the final resting place of their ashes, following a private ceremony that may have already taken place.
Ten years ago, Plisetskaya and Shchedrin publicly shared their wish for their ashes to be scattered over Russia after their deaths. Reports now suggest that a portion of their ashes was privately scattered over the Oka River. However, only part of the ashes was released, with the remainder set for a public ceremony.
The festival continues to highlight the couple’s cultural impact, even as details about their ashes remain partially unresolved. A public ceremony in 2025 will provide a final tribute, ensuring their wishes are fully honoured.
