Nalchity Launch Terminal renamed to honor slain youth leader Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi

The Nalchity Launch Terminal in Jhalakati has been renamed to honor Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, a youth leader who died during Bangladesh’s 2024 uprisings. His funeral in Dhaka on December 20, 2025, drew large crowds, reflecting his impact as a symbol of resistance. The renaming aims to inspire future generations with his courage and patriotism.

Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi was known for his fearless role in the July mass uprising. His death turned him into an enduring figure for protesting youth across the country. The decision to rename the terminal follows widespread public support, with locals calling it a meaningful addition to Nalchity’s history.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority has also completed major upgrades at the newly renamed Shaheed Osman Hadi Launch Terminal. Modernisation works included improved facilities and infrastructure to better serve passengers.

In a separate initiative, a water ambulance named Shaheed Osman Hadi was handed over to Monpura Upazila in Bhola. This vessel will provide essential healthcare services to coastal communities. Additionally, a new launch terminal at Durgapasha in Barishal’s Bakerganj was inaugurated, easing travel for residents in the area.

The renaming of the terminal and the introduction of the water ambulance mark efforts to preserve Hadi’s legacy. Both projects aim to improve public services while honoring his contributions. Local authorities expect these developments to benefit communities for years to come.
