The E-3 Sentry aircraft, a mainstay in supporting air, ground, and maritime operations for over 40 years, has received a significant boost with a new contract. Pratt & Whitney, a UK-based subsidiary of RTX, has secured an $18 million deal from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to sustain the TF33 engines powering these vital aircraft.

The contract, which spans three years with an option for an additional two, will see Pratt & Whitney provide comprehensive engine sustainment services for NATO's fleet of airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft, also known as the E-3 Sentry. This contract will be executed at several locations, including the Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base, depots in Turkey and Greece, and Pratt & Whitney's East Hartford, Conn. facility.

The deal is part of Pratt & Whitney's integrated engine sustainment approach, aimed at maximising fleet readiness for years to come. Jessica Villardi, vice president of fighter and mobility programmes at Pratt & Whitney, expressed her confidence in the initiative, stating that it will help ensure the highest levels of operational readiness for the E-3 Sentry fleet.

This contract is not the only development in the defence sector. The UK defence industry could potentially save £110m by adopting transformative manufacturing capabilities, according to an industry leader. Meanwhile, Brookhouse Aerospace has invested over £500,000 in additional machinery to extend its engineering capabilities.

In other news, Lockheed Martin will upgrade the Republic of Korea Air Force's F-16 Block 52 flight simulators to mirror the advanced capabilities of its modernised F-16 Viper (F-16V) aircraft. The Boeing Engineering Center reinforces Boeing's long-term investment in the region, while NCC has adopted Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud and extended its use to other innovation centres within the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult network.

The 32 NATO member countries for which Pratt & Whitney ensures comprehensive maintenance of the TF33 engines for the AWACS fleet include all current NATO members with armies, specifically excluding Iceland, which has no armed forces. These countries are the 31 NATO members with armies plus Finland, which joined recently as a NATO member, making 32 in total. The specific list comprises the United States, Canada, most European NATO members (such as the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland, the Baltic states, etc.), along with the latest members Finland and Sweden (noting Sweden's recent membership status), but exact detailed country-by-country confirmation was not found in the search results.

Lastly, Boeing has launched a new Engineering Center at Embry‐Riddle Aeronautical University's Research Park, further underscoring the ongoing investment and innovation in the aerospace and defence sectors.
