Nebraska Lawmaker 'Dirty Dan' McKeon Refuses to Resign After Public Indecency Citation
Nebraska lawmaker Dan McKeon, 59, has been cited for citizen indecency following an incident at a party in May. Governor Jim Pillen has condemned his behavior and called for his resignation. McKeon, however, has refused to step down, stating he answers to God, his family, and his constituents.
The incident, which involved McKeon allegedly touching a woman's buttocks, led to a citizen indecency citation. McKeon's attorney has since clarified that the nickname 'Dirty Dan' is a reference to his farming roots, not misconduct. Despite this, Governor Pillen has deemed McKeon's actions unacceptable.
McKeon has since issued an apology to the victim, acknowledging his offensive behavior but insisting it was meant as harmless fun. He attributed his actions to his sense of humor and alcohol consumption. In his apology note, McKeon included a Bible verse, expressing hope that the woman would accept his apology. The Delaware State Police investigated the incident in connection with the accusation of citizen indecency.
McKeon, who has been described by his attorney as a devoted husband, father, Christian, and public servant of the highest integrity, has so far refused to resign. As of Monday evening, Governor Pillen had not received McKeon's resignation letter. The lawmaker faces a Class II misdemeanor citation for his actions.
