Netherlands Praises Vietnam's Cybercrime Fight, Plans Regional Dialogue
Ernst Noorman, the Netherlands' Ambassador-at-large for Cyber Affairs, has praised Vietnam's commitment to combating cybercrime. He highlighted Vietnam's successful hosting of the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime, also known as the Hanoi Convention. Noorman mentioned that capacity building is a key component of the Convention and stressed the importance of human rights being strongly embedded in it.
Noorman revealed that the Netherlands and ASEAN Secretariat will organise a regional dialogue on cyber security in Singapore in November. This event will bring ASEAN members together to discuss important topics on cyber security, including cybercrime. He stressed the importance of operationalising the Convention and integrating its provisions into local legislation. Noorman also expressed the need for swift ratification and implementation of the Convention by all signatory countries. He stated that the Netherlands will sign the Convention in the near future.
Noorman's statements reflect the Netherlands' commitment to international cooperation in cyber security. The upcoming regional dialogue in Singapore and the Netherlands' plans to sign the Convention demonstrate a proactive approach to tackling cybercrime and strengthening global cyber security efforts.
