Nettetal’s New Year’s reception honors community heroes and bold future plans

Nettetal’s mayor, Christian Küsters, welcomed residents, officials, and local businesses to the town hall’s New Year’s reception. The event celebrated the city’s achievements while outlining plans for the future. Four individuals also received the 'Nettetaler' award for their dedication to the community.

Mayor Küsters began by reflecting on the challenges of the past year, including the coronavirus pandemic and energy shortages. He praised the city’s resilience and the efforts of the council and administration in advancing key areas like climate protection, mobility, and broadband expansion.

The mayor highlighted economic progress, such as Brata GmbH’s multi-million-euro investment in Breyell and the ongoing development of the Cargobeamer terminal in Kaldenkirchen. He also pointed to Nettetal-West’s growth and the Windpark Nettetal project, a collaboration between ENOVA and BMR Energy Solutions. This initiative, approved under the EEG scheme, will install five Nordex N163 turbines with a combined 34 MW capacity by late 2027. Education and training were another focus. Küsters announced new measures to strengthen schools and vocational programmes, ensuring a skilled workforce for local businesses. He reaffirmed Nettetal’s commitment to its core values: quality of life, economic strength, family support, and climate action.

The reception closed with the presentation of the 'Nettetaler' awards to four community members. Their contributions, alongside ongoing projects and investments, reinforce Nettetal’s path forward. The city continues to prioritise growth, sustainability, and the well-being of its residents.
