Neubrandenburg Marks 35 Years of German Unity with Mayor's Emotional Plea

Neubrandenburg marked the 35th anniversary of German Unity with a poignant celebration at the Concert Church. Mayor Nico Klose, delivering his first speech in the role, emphasized the importance of unity and respectful coexistence.

Klose, who took over as mayor this year, reflected on his personal experiences during the transitional years. He appealed to all citizens to take responsibility for a respectful coexistence, bridging social divides, and creating equal opportunities for both East and West. The mayor warned against populism, division, and apathy, stressing that unity is not a state but an attitude.

The Concert Church, once destroyed but now a vibrant cultural hub, served as a symbol of unity. A festival concert, featuring works by Ferruccio Busoni and Ludwig van Beethoven, was the highlight of the program. Internationally renowned violinist Simos Papanas performed, accompanied by the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic under the baton of General Music Director Daniel Geiss. Delegations from partner cities Koszalin (Poland) and Nevers (France) also attended the celebrations.

The celebrations in Neubrandenburg underscored Mayor Nico Klose's commitment to German Unity. Through his speech and the city's cultural events, he demonstrated the importance of unity, respect, and shared responsibility in today's society.
