Neustadt bei Coburg elects new mayor after 31 years under Rebhan's leadership
Neustadt bei Coburg has a new mayor after a decisive runoff vote. Dominik W. Heike of the CSU secured a clear victory, ending Frank Rebhan's 31-year tenure. The election marks a shift in local leadership after decades under the same administration.
Frank Rebhan, a member of the SPD, first became mayor of Neustadt bei Coburg in 1995. His long service made him the longest-serving mayor in the town's history, even in a region traditionally dominated by the CSU. But on 22 March 2026, voters chose change.
In the runoff election, Dominik W. Heike won 59.9 percent of the vote, while Rebhan received 40.1 percent. Turnout stood at 56.3 percent, showing strong engagement from the electorate. Heike will now take over as the town's new mayor, replacing Rebhan after more than three decades in office.
The election result brings Rebhan's extended period as mayor to a close. Heike's victory reflects the CSU's continued influence in Bavaria, even at the local level. The new mayor is set to begin his term with a clear mandate from voters.
