Neuwied invites residents to shape its bold new urban future
Neuwied is launching a fresh urban development strategy to plan the city's future alongside its residents. The initiative replaces the 2018 plan and will tackle key issues like climate protection, housing, and mobility. Officials have stressed that decisions will be made openly, not behind closed doors.
The project kicks off with an event called NeuWie? Rethinking Your City of Tomorrow on March 26, running from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the David-Roentgen-Schule. Alongside the in-person gathering, an online platform will let residents share ideas continuously at www.ourwebsite/urban-development-strategy.
The strategy aims to reflect changing needs in the city. Workshops will take place across 14 neighbourhoods, ensuring local voices are heard. Special sessions for children and young people will also be held, building on Neuwied's reputation as a *child-friendly municipality*. While detailed population data for Neuwied itself is not available, nearby Windhagen—a smaller municipality in the same district—reported 4,649 residents as of June 30, 2024. The focus remains on gathering broad input to guide the city's next steps.
The updated strategy will replace the 2018 version, addressing modern challenges like climate action and transport. Residents can contribute through workshops, the launch event, or the online platform. The process is designed to keep decision-making transparent and inclusive.
