Neuwied's 'Walk of Religions' Celebrates 363 Years of Tolerance

Nieuwied recently hosted the 'Walk of Religions', a significant event celebrating the city's 363-year history of religious tolerance. Mayor Peter Jung highlighted its importance, emphasising unity and togetherness. The event, inspired by the Tolerance Edict of 1662, brought together people of various faiths.

The day began with a visit to the Heilig-Kreuz Church, where Josef Freise and Pastor Christian Scheinost shared insights about their community work. Participants then gathered at the 'Angel of Cultures' before embarking on a tour of Neuwied's mosques. Small groups visited several mosques, including the Albanian Mosque on Sohler Weg, where Mayor Jung thanked the community for their hospitality.

The event culminated in the reading of the 'Prayer of the United Nations', a poignant moment of shared reflection and unity. Despite the event's success, details about which religious communities participated last year remain unclear, as search results were inconclusive.

The 'Walk of Religions' in Neuwied serves as a powerful reminder of the city's commitment to religious freedom and tolerance. Despite the lack of specific community details from last year's event, the spirit of unity and mutual respect was evident. As the city looks to the future, Mayor Jung's words echo the promise of continued togetherness and understanding among its diverse faith communities.
