New 2023 travel rules require passports for all children under 14
New travel rules for children will take effect from January 20, 2023. Under the updated regulations, all minors under 14 must have their own foreign passports when visiting certain countries—even if travelling with parents or guardians. Authorities are urging families to prepare in advance to avoid last-minute complications.
The requirement applies regardless of whether children are accompanied by adults. Previously, some destinations allowed minors to be listed on a parent’s passport, but this will no longer be accepted. Families planning trips abroad should ensure their children’s documents meet the new standards.
The changes aim to standardise travel requirements for minors across certain destinations. Families must now ensure each child carries a separate, valid foreign passport. Those without compliant documents risk being turned away at border controls starting next year.
