New Bills Target Fracking Loopholes and Water Contamination Risks

US Representative Kathy Castor has teamed up with four other lawmakers to reintroduce a package of bills targeting loopholes for oil and gas companies. The proposed laws aim to tighten regulations on fracking and water contamination. Castor also remains watchful over a controversial drilling plan off Florida’s west coast in federal waters.

The set of bills includes the CLEANER Act, which shuts down a loophole allowing gas firms to frack without safely disposing of contaminated water. Another measure, the SHARED Act, mandates testing for water pollution near fracking sites.

The reintroduced bills focus on stricter oversight of fracking and its environmental impact. If passed, they would enforce testing for water contamination and close disposal loopholes. The outcome could affect both industry operations and consumer energy costs in the coming years.
