New Boeing documentary Freefall exposes safety failures ahead of summer release

A new documentary examining Boeing’s safety and accountability issues is set for release this summer. Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing will feature interviews with company workers and families affected by past incidents. The film arrives as scrutiny over the aviation giant continues to grow. Directed by Rory Kennedy, the project follows her earlier investigation Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. Kennedy, whose recent work Queen of Chess premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, will also take part in a panel at the 2024 Milken Global Conference. She joins filmmakers Amy Redford, Drew Goddard, Adele Lim, and Cord Jefferson for the discussion.

The documentary is produced by Moxie Films and Imagine Documentaries. Industry heavyweights Brian Grazer and Ron Howard serve as executive producers. Netflix will distribute the film in partnership with Imagine Documentaries, with a scheduled release date of August 19, 2024. Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing will bring fresh attention to the company’s challenges. Through firsthand accounts from employees and victims’ families, the film aims to highlight ongoing concerns. The documentary’s release follows years of public debate over Boeing’s safety record.
