New Committee Unites Global Belarusian Diaspora for Freedom Day 2024
A new Organizing Committee has formed to shape this year's Freedom Day celebrations around the world for Belarus. The group will set key priorities and coordinate events across multiple countries. Its aim is to bring together independent initiatives from the global Belarusian diaspora.
Freedom Day has been marked in recent years by large gatherings organized by Belarusian communities abroad. Cities like Warsaw, Kraków, Vilnius, Berlin, Leipzig, London, New York, and Chicago have hosted events. The biggest celebrations took place in Warsaw, where tens of thousands gathered on July 26 to remember the 2020 protests against Lukashenko.
The committee now wants to improve cooperation between these local initiatives. It plans to help diaspora groups prepare their activities and ensure a unified approach. A wider meeting is set for later this week, with organizers from around the world invited to join.
The committee's work will focus on defining clear messages and priorities for this year's events. Stronger collaboration between cities is expected to make the celebrations more impactful. The next meeting will expand participation to include more diaspora representatives.
