New District Synod convenes for first session at Geisa Castle

The newly elected District Synod will hold its first session on March 14 at 9 a.m. in Geisa Castle. This gathering marks the start of a six-year term for nearly 40 members representing parish areas across the region between Schwallungen and Unterbreizbach.

The day will begin with a worship service led by Superintendent Christoph Ernst. After the service, synod members will move to the castle's grand Gandolfi Hall for their inaugural meeting.

The District Synod includes lay volunteers from all 20 parish areas and full-time staff from various church ministries. Lay volunteers must form the majority in all governing bodies, as their involvement is considered essential to the church's operations.

Meetings of the synod take place twice a year to discuss and decide on major developments within the regional Protestant Church. The agenda for this session will focus on elections, including the Synod Presidium, the Deputy Superintendent, and the District Church Council. Members will also appoint working committees for the next six years.

Protestant synod meetings are open to the public. Attendees are welcome to observe the work of the regional church firsthand.

The District Synod, elected every six years, plays a key role in guiding the Protestant Church at the district level. Decisions made during this session will shape the direction of church governance and ministry for the coming term.
