A new documentary, 'Street Workers: Between Pavement and Hope', airing on ZDF on November 4 at 10:15 p.m., shines a light on the vital work of dedicated street workers who transform the lives of young people in Germany. The film, part of the '37 Grad' series and directed by Sahar Rahimi, follows individuals like Burak, who helps young men like Omar and Jeremy find their paths to university studies and vocational training.

Many young people in Germany struggle with unemployment, housing instability, and lack of structure in their lives, a situation exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The documentary highlights the importance of empathetic street workers who, often with personal experiences of hardship, provide crucial support.

Burak, one such worker, connects with young people in his neighborhood due to his own background. He has helped Omar pursue university studies and Jeremy secure stable vocational training. Anna-Lena, another street worker, offers mobile counseling and advice, while Trucy runs a donation-funded project called 'Upstairs' to provide direct aid once a week. These workers are visible and approachable, supporting young people without keeping regular hours.

The documentary, written by Annabel Münstermann, illustrates the challenges and rewards of assisting young people with difficult backgrounds and untapped potential. It emphasizes the vital role of street workers in providing hope and structure to those in need, and airs on ZDF on November 4 at 10:15 p.m.
