New Haven's Ward 8: Martinelli & Zola Vie for Leadership as Cupo Steps Down

New Haven's Ward 8 is preparing for a change in leadership as incumbent Ellen Cupo steps down. Two candidates, Democrat Amanda Martinelli and Republican Andrea Zola, are vying for her seat. Martinelli, with Cupo's endorsement, aims to expand Wooster Square's community spirit across the entire ward, while Zola, a former Alder candidate and local business owner, brings political experience to the table.

Martinelli, who has received Cupo's enthusiastic support, plans to strengthen Ward 8's sense of community. She hopes to extend Wooster Square's close-knit atmosphere to the rest of the ward. Both candidates share priorities, with traffic control and job creation topping their agendas. Zola, who previously ran for Alder in 2023, has political roots in New Haven; his great-uncle, Biagio DiLieto, served as Mayor from 1980 to 1989. Zola also brings local business acumen, owning Little Dandelion Cafe in Wooster Square and previously serving on the Wooster Square Monument Committee.

With Cupo's departure, Ward 8 residents will choose between Amanda Martinelli, who promises to expand community spirit, and Andrea Zola, who offers political experience and local business insight. Both candidates are committed to addressing traffic and job creation issues, setting the stage for a pivotal election.
