New Jersey 2025 Gubernatorial Race Tight: Sherrill, Ciattarelli Neck and Neck
A new poll by Neighborhood Research and Media has found a tight race in New Jersey's 2025 gubernatorial election. Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are neck and neck, each with 44% support. The poll, conducted between October 6 and 9, has a margin of error of +/-5.6%.
The poll reveals distinct preferences among different voter groups. Mikie Sherrill leads among liberal voters, with 86% of their support, compared to Ciattarelli's 8%. Conversely, Ciattarelli leads among conservative voters, with 84% to Sherrill's 10%.
Among unaffiliated voters and independents, Ciattarelli has a significant lead, 49% to Sherrill's 30%. Meanwhile, Sherrill has a 46%-35% lead among moderate voters. This preference for Ciattarelli among moderates likely reflects his local political experience and centrist appeal, as he is a former state assemblyman and 2021 gubernatorial nominee with established ties in moderate Republican circles.
The poll also shows a divide based on voters' perception of New Jersey's direction. Sherrill leads 74%-10% among those who believe the state is headed in the right direction, while Ciattarelli is ahead 69%-21% among those who think it's headed in the wrong direction.
With the election still over a year away, the race remains close. Both candidates will need to appeal to a broad range of voters to secure victory. The poll suggests that Ciattarelli's local political experience and centrist appeal may be key to winning over moderates, while Sherrill's progressive platform resonates with liberals. As the campaign progresses, each candidate will need to solidify their base and make inroads into the other's strongholds.
