New Mayors Pledge to Maintain Langenfeld-Monheim Water Association
Newly elected mayors Sonja Wienecke in Monheim am Rhein and Gerold Wenzens in Langenfeld have pledged to maintain the century-old partnership between the two cities through the Langenfeld-Monheim Water Association. The city councils of both towns will soon discuss proposals to continue this cooperation.
The inaugurations of Wienecke and Wenzens are scheduled for the first week of November. Both have indicated broad support from their respective council factions to sustain the water association. The outgoing mayor of Langenfeld, Frank Schneider, aims to finalise this decision during his last days in office.
If approved by the city councils on November 4 (Langenfeld) and November 5 (Monheim), plans to dissolve the water association will be abandoned. This will ensure a reliable and affordable drinking water supply for both cities. The new mayors have committed to avoiding the division of affiliated companies and negotiating necessary contracts to maintain the proven collaboration.
The future of the Langenfeld-Monheim Water Association looks secure with the support of the new mayors and their council factions. The municipal council meetings in November will determine the next steps, with no specific information yet available on the chairman's position post-meetings.
