New President Nuno Neves Marks Victory with Fátima Pilgrimage
Nuno Neves, the newly elected president of Vila Nova de Poiares Municipal Chamber, has marked his victory with a pilgrimage to Fátima. The leader of the Poiares a Sério movement (PRS), Neves won the local elections with a significant margin, taking the Chamber from the PS.
Neves, who made the journey to Fátima alone, had expressed his intention to arrive before 12:00 on Monday. The PRS secured 40.39% of the votes, leaving PPD/PSD in second place with 34.91% and PS in third with 16.35%. Despite not achieving an absolute majority, Neves has shown openness to dialogue with other parties.
Neves' victory was not a surprise to him, as he felt the support of the locals during his campaign. He received 'hugs and affection' from the residents, which he believed was a sign of his impending win.
