New Prussian Heritage Chief Backs US Cultural Figures, Plans October Visit

Marion Ackermann, the newly appointed president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, has expressed solidarity with US cultural figures amid concerns over government interference in cultural institutions. Ackermann, who took office in June 2021, plans to visit the USA in October to explore ways to support cultural figures there.

Ackermann's visit comes as the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has previously criticized US President Trump's approach to cultural institutions. She finds it surprising that there is little public opposition in the USA to government interference in these areas. Ackermann advocates for moving the remaining exhibitions of the Museum of European Cultures to the Humboldt Forum, suggesting cost-saving measures such as cash machines and consolidations in exhibitions due to austerity pressure.

Meanwhile, the long-term reform of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is set to be officially completed on December 1, 2021. Ackermann plans to strengthen mediation in museums and launch a training offensive to address the shortage of skilled workers. The topping-out ceremony for the Berlin Modern museum is scheduled for October 17, 2021.

Ackermann's solidarity with US cultural figures highlights the global concern for the independence of cultural institutions. Her planned visit to the USA, along with the upcoming topping-out ceremony for the Berlin Modern museum, signals a proactive approach to cultural preservation and development.
