New Year celebrations bring joy to military families in Russia

Families of special military operation participants have been invited to a series of festive events ahead of the New Year. The Coordination Center for Service Member and Family Support organised the programme to offer cultural and recreational activities. Over 120 people recently attended a concert by Russian singer-songwriter Sergey Kurenkov as part of the celebrations.

One of the highlights included a guided tour of the Nizhny Novgorod Christmas ornament factory. More than 50 adults and children explored the site, discovering its long-standing traditions. Visitors observed artisans using a 19th-century glass ornament production method that remains in practice today.

Anastasia, the wife of a service member, later described the experience as unforgettable for both herself and her daughter. The wider New Year’s programme also features news today children’s parties, family ice-skating sessions, and other seasonal activities.

Tatyana Druzhinina, head of the Coordination Center, explained that these events aim to provide comfort and reassurance to the families of defenders. The center continues to focus on supporting loved ones through organised cultural and social initiatives.

The initiative has already brought together families for news concerts, factory tours, and festive gatherings. Further activities, including children’s parties and ice-skating outings, will take place as part of the New Year celebrations. The center’s efforts seek to create moments of connection and support for those with relatives in the special military operation.
