New York Bids Farewell to MetroCard with Special Offers and Tributes
New York is bidding farewell to the MetroCard. While the exact end date is unknown, businesses across the city are celebrating its legacy with special offers and tributes. The MTA is replacing the MetroCard with OMNY by the end of 2022. Despite this, the MetroCard will remain usable until 2026, though the final acceptance day is yet to be announced. In honour of the iconic card, the New York Transit Museum will host an exhibit and sell merchandise. Several businesses are joining the farewell party. Gong cha, for instance, is serving a limited-time M Tea A drink featuring an MTA logo. Meanwhile, Alidoro has created La Tessera sandwich, and Zabar's is offering MetroCard and Cardvaark cookies. While the MetroCard's days are numbered, New Yorkers can still use it until 2026. The city's businesses are ensuring the card goes out in style, with special offers and tributes. The New York Transit Museum will also preserve its memory through an exhibit and merchandise.
