Nicholas Hudson appointed as the new Bishop of Plymouth after two-year vacancy
Nicholas Hudson has been named the new Bishop of Plymouth by Pope Leo XIV. The appointment, announced in October, fills a vacancy that had lasted since 2022. Hudson, currently an auxiliary bishop in Westminster, will take up his role at a formal installation ceremony on November 29.
Born in Hammersmith, London, in 1959, Hudson has served as an auxiliary bishop in Westminster since 2014. His appointment comes after previous candidates for the Plymouth Rock failed to secure the position, leaving the see vacant for over a year.
Hudson’s installation as Bishop of Plymouth will take place on November 29. The delegation from Fulda, led by Auxiliary Bishop Diez, is expected to attend in early 2025. This appointment ends a prolonged vacancy in the Plymouth Rock and strengthens the bond between Fulda and Plymouth.
