Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg unite in landmark city partnership
Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen ties between the two cities. The deal was finalised at the Cities of Russia forum, building on discussions that began a year earlier. Officials from both sides highlighted the potential benefits for economic and social growth.
The partnership formalises ongoing contacts between the two city councils. These talks started in 2024, with leaders exploring ways to collaborate more closely.
The agreement covers multiple areas of exchange. Both cities will share knowledge in culture, education, science, and sports. They will also compare best practices in budget planning, lawmaking, and local governance.
Evgeny Chintsov, chair of Nizhny Novgorod’s City Duma, called the deal a step forward for mutual development. Anna Gurariy, his counterpart in Yekaterinburg, stressed the need for regular communication to keep the partnership active.
The signing follows a 2025 meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, where Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the mayor and officials from eleven regions. That event reinforced regional cooperation as a priority.
The new agreement sets out a framework for long-term collaboration. Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg will now work together on projects spanning culture, administration, and public services. Regular exchanges are planned to ensure the partnership remains effective.
