Nizhny Novgorod gears up for a landmark 805th anniversary in 2026

Nizhny Novgorod is preparing for a year of major cultural events in 2026. The city will mark its 805th anniversary on August 15 with festivals, exhibitions, and performances running from spring to autumn. Organisers have lined up a mix of returning favourites and new projects for locals and visitors alike.

The celebrations kick off in April with INTERVALS, a festival featuring experimental music and art. This year's edition runs from April 23 to 26, following previous appearances by artists like Japanese performer Shohei Fujimoto, who took part in the event at the Nizhny Novgorod Choir College (August 25–27, 2023) and Arsenal (April 12–14, 2023).

May brings **TSIPR**, a contemporary theatre festival scheduled for May 19–24. Summer highlights include the **Sunset Capital** series, spread across the season, and **Gorky Fest** in July, a large-scale celebration of arts and culture. August will feature **PARI FEST** and the **Volga Fiesta**, coinciding with the city's anniversary. Later in the year, a book fair and major exhibition projects are planned for autumn. These events will build on the city's reputation for vibrant cultural programming, with each festival offering a distinct focus—from music and theatre to literature and visual arts.

The 2026 programme reflects Nizhny Novgorod's long-standing tradition of hosting diverse cultural events. With festivals spanning eight months, the city aims to attract both residents and tourists. Officials have confirmed that full schedules and ticket details will be released in the coming months.
