Nizhny Novgorod pushes for new long-haul flights from Chkalov Airport
Local authorities in Nizhny Novgorod Region are in talks with airlines to expand long-haul flight options from Chkalov Airport. Currently, residents lack direct routes to popular destinations like Thailand, China, or Vietnam. Officials are now exploring ways to boost international connections, focusing on key economic routes rather than tourist charters.
Chkalov Airport presently serves 25 routes, but its international offerings remain limited. Earlier, Deputy Governor Oleg Berkovich announced plans to develop flights to the UAE, highlighting the region’s push for better connectivity.
If successful, the new routes would mark a significant step for Chkalov Airport’s international network. Subsidies and strategic partnerships may help secure long-term flight options. For now, residents continue to rely on indirect connections for most long-haul travel.
